We’ve been writing this blog for awhile now and we have never addressed this question before! “Should I buy a used bed to save money?”
Obviously, because we are a discount mattress store we want to encourage our customers to shop with us, otherwise we’d go out of business. However, when it comes to talking about used beds there is a lot more to it than just saying “NO BUY YOUR BED NEW ALWAYS”. There are some important reasons why people shouldn’t buy used beds, even if it is an affordable option.
2 Reasons Why You Should Not Buy A Used Bed
You don’t know where it has been
Okay, unless you are getting the used bed from your brother our your Old Aunt Meredith (shudder) then you don’t know where it has been. Yuck factor aside a used bed may be older than you think it is and therefore may not be that good for you to sleep on. It may also have a lot of built up dirt and germs in it that you can’t really clean out.
2. Nobody knows the value a used mattress
Somebody trying to see their old bed to you may not be charging you a fair price. Sure, they might say that it is in “like new” condition but if it doesn’t have the plastic on it still i’d be weary. Because discount mattress retailers (like us) can sell new brand name beds for cheap – they may be ripping you off. Unless, they have the price ticket still I wouldn’t fall for it.
We get it nobody likes to spend a lot on a new bed. However, unless you know exactly what the bed’s history is and how much it cost – we recommend of buying new instead of used.
As for those old mattresses you see thrown out in the back alley – You REALLY don’t want those. Remember, for health reasons beds should be replaced once ever 8 to 10 years. If it’s in the alley I’d let it stay there.
