Foundations & Frames
Mattress foundations and mattress frames are two different pieces of equipment that are very important to complete your bed:
- A mattress frame is a piece of equipment that is roughly the same size as your mattress and provides a sturdy base for your bed to sit in.
- A mattress foundation is commonly a box spring wrapped in a thin sheet and supports your mattress. The foundation provides the primary support your mattress needs to be able to support you, and it also helps to increase your mattress’s lifespan.

Foundation and Frame Styles:
We offer multiple foundation and frame styles so that you can compare models and find what works best for your bed. With our low-profile box spring, you can support your mattress while increasing its height for easy access, or with our Bunkie Board you can support any sized mattress with a thin layer, keeping your bed’s height lower.
We offer each style you see online at our stores where you can test out every mattress, frame, foundation and more. Our experts can easily guide you to the best options for you.
Additional Information:
Here at No Bull, we’re all about the support and that comes in a few forms throughout the buying process:
- Your mattress should provide the proper support for your spine, plus all those other problem areas that used to keep you up at night.
- Your mattress foundation should provide the proper support and protection for your mattress.
- Your mattress supplier (that’s us) should be on-hand to provide support and answer any questions you may have.
If you’ve made it this far, you’ve likely found the mattress of your sweet, sweet dreams – and potentially an ultra-high-tech, superior comfort, zero-gravity adjustable bed base to go with it. To that, we say: congrats, and welcome to the best sleep of your life! However, if a zero-gravity base just isn’t for you, it’s time to find the perfect foundation for your new mattress.
What Is a Mattress Foundation, and Do You Really Need One?
To put it as simply as possible, a mattress foundation provides your mattress with the support it needs so that it can support you. It goes underneath the mattress itself and acts as a barrier between your mattress and the floor. Even more importantly, a foundation acts as a sturdy reinforcement to help maintain the structural integrity of your mattress. If you already own a bed frame, skipping the foundation will have your mattress sagging in all the wrong places. If you don’t, placing your mattress on the floor offers plenty of sturdy, flat support but has the unfortunate trade-off of providing too much support for many mattress types – it can also give you that uncomfortable “bottoming-out” sensation that can add pressure to your back, hips, and shoulders. Worse, you’re only a few inches from the floor, which isn’t aesthetically or physically pleasing.
Why Should You Choose a Foundation?
A proper foundation gives your mattress support in all the right places so you’re not compromising your mattress’s internal structure (and warranty). In addition, you’ll prevent wear and tear by keeping your mattress off the floor, extending its life and keeping your sleep quality – and storage space – high in the process.
Here at No Bull Mattresses and More, we offer the following frame and foundation types:
- Metal frames. The most basic form of mattress support, a metal frame gets your mattress off the floor, allowing valuable storage space underneath. However, you’ll need to add another foundation type, as a basic metal frame can’t support a mattress of any type. If you already own a steel grid platform, solid platform bed, or adjustable base, a basic metal frame isn’t necessary.
- Box springs. Probably the best- known mattress foundation, modern box springs actually don’t contain springs at all. Instead, they’re made up of a lightweight wooden frame and slats, designed to provide support in all the right places while allowing your mattress to breathe. You can choose from traditional (think mattress-width) and low-profile.
- Bunkie boards. If you have a platform bed with slats or another bed you previously used with an inner-spring mattress and box spring, you’ll likely discover that your new memory foam or hybrid mattress tends to sag between the existing widely-spaced slats. A bunkie board is a great solution to prevent sag without adding excessive height.
